North Shore Beach

North Shore Beach is an established waterfront community with mature trees and amazing views. To the south is Lake Pontchartrain, and to the north is over a mile of unspoiled marsh. Birds, fish, crabs, and other wildlife (even the occasional manatee) are plentiful, and the shore of Lake Pontchartrain is a fish sanctuary protected from netting.

The neighborhood is located in south Slidell off of Highway 11 and contains about 300 houses. Even though they are built on marshland, the houses in North Shore Beach are relatively stable because the hard clay layer in the ground is within the reach of pile drivers.

Children living in this neighborhood attend Abney Elementary, Slidell Junior High, and Salmen High schools.

North Shore Beach was founded in the mid-1950's. During its long history, it has been home to a restaurant, a skating rink, and a Baptist church. Today the neighborhood contains a volunteer fire department and a community building near the site of the old skating rink. The community building is maintained by the North Shore Beach Association and can be rented for private events.
